Telescope and Grant Proposal Calendar [Wiki]

Upon the excellent suggestion of Angelle Tanner, we’ve created a shared Google Calendar for common telescope and grant proposal deadlines. The calendar is embedded below and also has its own wiki page: Telescope and Grant Proposal Calendar. We’ve already added a lot of deadlines and programs, but I’m sure we’re missing some. Please comment on this post or on the wiki with suggested additions. Even better would be to volunteer to help maintain the calendar! (I would just give your Google account permission to “Make changes to events.”) UPDATE (2011 Feb 13): Angelle Tanner has agreed to be the calendar manager. Please email modifications and additions to her at angelle.tanner AT gmail.com.

You can subscribe to the calendar in your calendar program of choice with this link: Subscribe in iCal
or by coping and pasting this url in the Subscribe dialog box: http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/rlfgsm029un24cq6mvglge63us%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics
In iCal, be sure to change the Auto-Refresh setting from Never to something like Once a Week.

My idea at the moment is that this particular calendar remain limited to open-access telescopes and US-based funding opportunities (which is relevant to the majority of AstroBetter’s current readership base). If someone else would like to maintain a calendar for other deadlines (e.g., European telescope and grant deadlines), please contact us and/or leave a comment and we can help get that setup.

For more details on setting up and using shared calendars, check out my classic post on Seminar Calendars.

UPDATE (2011 Feb 13): Angelle Tanner has agreed to be the calendar manager. Please email modifications and additions to her at angelle.tanner AT gmail.com rather than leaving a comment below. Comments closed.

The Spitzer Kepler update is Mar 1, not the end of Jan…

    Thanks! I fixed it.

It would be useful also to have a calendar that gave notices (i.e. e-mail alarms) ~1 month before all of these deadlines. This makes it easier to keep track of things coming up.

There is a GMRT deadline July 7 and an IRAM deadline usually in March (but maybe not this year).

@darin users of google calendar can add reminders to subscribed calendars and to individual events in the subscribed calendar.

    Great idea!
If you want to add some 4m-class telescopes, please note the AAO service mode deadline on Feb. 1st (too late…), June 1st & Oct 1st.
Calar Alto on March 15th. and Sep. 15th.
Also, TNG on April 15th (I think) and Oct. 15th
All these facilities are open for the international community…

Would it be worth it to also include major upcoming data releases? Thinking particularly of the recent Kepler one.

Its that time of year again! Please send me your telescope due dates and I’ll add them to the Google
Calendar! ALSO – be aware of the time zones for the calendar on the wiki vs. in Google calendar.
