Stargazing Apps Giveaway

Well, this is a milestone for AstroBetter: we’ve been given some promo codes to give away to our readers! They are for the Vito Technology iOS apps Star Walk and Solar Walk! StarWalk is one those apps that you can hold up to the sky and it’ll show you what you’re seeing. It even uses the camera to overlay the map on your real time sky. It’s pretty amazing:

These are the apps I’m able to give away:
Star Walk for iPhone
Star Walk for iPad
Solar Walk for iPhone (works on iPad, but not optimized)
Solar Walk for Mac

Leave a comment below with which product you’re interested in. Be sure you enter a valid email address when you make the comment (only I’ll be able to see it). Then I’ll use a random number generator to choose the winners. There will be one winner for each app. Contest will close on Sunday night, 7pm ET.

Update 11:30am Friday: For those playing the odds, as of now, chances of winning Star Walk for iPad or the Solar Walk apps are quite high!

    Hey Kelle,

That’s great that you have free stuff to give away. Well are Star walk for ipad and for iphone different things? I’d thought that they work on both anyways. I have an iphone and would love to use starwalk.

    Cheers

Yeah, iphone apps work on ipads, but they leave something to be desired. Apps designed specifically for iPads are much better for iPads because they are higher resolution at full size and take better advantage of the extra sq. footage.

Star Walk for iPad *or* iPhone (well, iPod touch) would be a nice addition to my Astronomy app collection, thanks! As a Mac-using planetary type I suppose I shouldn’t pas on Solar walk either though. My daughter would probably get a lot of use out of that.

There was a star walk for iPad
If I won it, I’d surely be glad
I could look at the sky
    an know instantly why
    Orion so many stars had!

  • Ruud Oct 29, 2011 @ 13:46

Star Walk for iPad would be awesome!

  • Jonathan Fraine Oct 29, 2011 @ 16:50

Did anyone else notice that they said “Astrological events …” at the beginning of the video. Although it’s a fantastic app for education and looking at the pretty sky, why did the video have to go there ?

I use star walk whenever someone asks me “what is that star over there?” and I don’t know. But there is also a free app called “Planets” that does the same thing with less pizzazz. In the end, I think the extra goodies are worth it.

Does Solar Walk for Mac run on Leopard? If so, I’ll toss my hat in for it.

  • Nico Oct 30, 2011 @ 14:09

“Astrological events”, 😀 oviously the guy doesn’t know what he is talking about….
